John Kremer grew up near a naval air base, he developped a passion for the forces and enlisted a year after high school in 2003. After multiple tours he was injured with an EOD mobile unit when a he stepped on a land mine, he subsquently lost both his legs below the knee. He is currently trying to earn a spot on the U.S. Paralympic Biathlon Team. He will be competing Sitting Volleyball and Wheelchair Basketball.

Brian suffered an injury to his right knee in 2002 which resulted in sciatica and daily chronic pain. The injury has restricted his employability and activities within the military. He was reassigned to work with “Soldier On” which has improved his quality of life. He will be competing in Archery, Athletics, and Rowing.

Sgt. Lacour suffered from spinal problems when serving in the US Military, but says that he is “honoured to represent the Marine Corps at the 2014 Invictus Games.” He will be competing in Swimming and Road Cycling.

Sgt. Lake enlisted in the Marine Corps in 2004, where he served in Iraq and also trained members of the Georgian military. This resulted in him being diagnosed with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. He has said, “I want to prove myself and push myself at the Invictus Games, and to compete in different events and challenge myself, but also be a part of something that will always be with me, the Invictus Games”. He will be competing for Gold in Archery, Sitting Volleyball, and Wheelchair Basketball

- Christian Alexander Lanz

Christian Alexander Lanz was wounded during service, but has been using the power of sport to aid his recovery. This has led Lanz to develop a love for adaptive sports. He will be competing in Sitting Volleyball and Wheelchair Rugby.

Jakob Hou Larsen was severely injured during service. This resulted in paraplegia, severed spinal cord and damage to internal organs. The power of sport has played a key role in his recovery. Larsen will be competing in Wheelchair Basketball and Wheelchair Rugby.

Sonny Lemerande inlisted in the navy after leaving high school. He served for over nine years and did multiple tours of duty. On his second deployment in 2009, Sonny’s Humvee was struck by a pressure plate anti-tank mine, he sustained a lower body injury and was diagnosed with PTSD. However his injuries haven’t slowed him down, he finished his career as a mentor to junior sailors. He is currently attending higher education to become a social worker. He will be competing in Field-Discus, Shot Put, Sitting Volleyball and Wheelchair Basketball.

Robert Lewis has suffered from mental health issues, developed from experieces while serving. The power of sports has been a great tool for Lewis pushing back against such problems. He is proud to be representing the British Armed Forces in Athletics.

Kushal Limbu lost both legs while in service due to a severe injury. The Quick Reaction Fund purchased him a Recumbent Bike and ever since, Limbu has competed in various competitions. In 2013 he competed in the Track and Volleyball competitions at the Warrior Games in the USA. Limbu will be representing the British Armed Forces in Athletics.

During combat operations in Iraq of 2003 SFC Livesay, sustained a gunshot wound and subsequently had his leg amputated above the knee. Since his injury, Christopher Livesay has continued his career as a Green Beret, jumping from planes, graduating from the Army’s Pathfinder school, and finished his career in the Army’s World Class Athlete Program in the sport of rowing.

Samantha Livy suffers from ME, a condition that can effect the whole body including mental health. However, fighting back against the illness, Livy has been taking part in Archery and Indoor Rowing competitions. In August she was selected to represent the British Armed Forces in both sports.

Cpl. Lopez enlisted in the Marine Corps in November 2007 and was deployed to Afghanistan in March 2012. Joshua was injured during this time on both of his legs, his pelvis, and his right hand. This resulted in a below the knee amputation on his right leg. Joshua has said, “The Invictus Games is a way to not only battle back from the trauma of being wounded but also overcome stiff competition from our peers. The Invictus Games for me is to allow myself to be me in my new normal and not feel out of place and at the same time participate in sports that I love.” He will be competing in Cycling and Archery.

Loreto di Loreto is a veteran of the Carabinieri Force, waiting for recall into service. He was involved in an accident during serving in Afghanistan where he reported a spinal cord injury. He will be competing in Rowing, Archery, Wheelchair Rugby and Wheelchair Basketball.
