Cpl. Lopez enlisted in the Marine Corps in November 2007 and was deployed to Afghanistan in March 2012. Joshua was injured during this time on both of his legs, his pelvis, and his right hand. This resulted in a below the knee amputation on his right leg. Joshua has said, “The Invictus Games is a way to not only battle back from the trauma of being wounded but also overcome stiff competition from our peers. The Invictus Games for me is to allow myself to be me in my new normal and not feel out of place and at the same time participate in sports that I love.” He will be competing in Cycling and Archery.
