Jason Sturley injured his leg whilst serving in the Solomon Islands, which led to him being diagnosed with septicaemia and having his leg amputated above the knee. Since then Jason has been posted to the 2nd Engineer Regiment, and will be representing New Zealand in a number of sporting events.

Jens Syber was suffered a blast injury to the neck, lower back and reduce hearing. The power of sport has been an important factor for his recovery. He has said “It is crucial the countries do more for its wounded soldiers. They have helped to ensure that everyone else can live a normal life, It can open other people’s eyes to the fact that although we have physical or mental injuries caused by our missions, we acts as whole human beings. Given the right conditions and means we can operate like any other human being. I am a soldier by heart and I have been used to meet soldiers from other nations, therefore I would like to meet and compete with those soldiers. I want to show others, that we as injured soldiers can operate just like other human beings just given get the right conditions.” Syberg will be competing in Archery, Sitting Volleyball and Wheelchair Rugby.

Michael Thiim Sørensen injured his back during service, this resulted in nerve damage and a radiating pain throughout his right body. The power of sport has been a tool for Sørensen, to fight back against his injuries and carry on with life. He is proud to be representing Denmark in Archery and the Jaguar Landrover Driving Challenge.

Whilst serving in Afghanistan Dion Taka was wounded in the stomach and pelvis. Dion is now looking forward to competing for Gold in the team sports, as well as: Archery, Athletics, Powerlifting, and Cycling.

Alex Tate was injured during his service in the Army. Tate’s injury resulted in his left leg being amputated below the knee. Since then, he has competed in a number of Athletic events and will be representing the British Armed Forces in the sport.

Matthew Taxis joined the Army at age 20 as a Combat Engineer and was posted to the 2nd Combat Engineer Regiment in Brisbane, Queensland. Taxis injured his back here while lifting gear during pre-deployment training in 2011 and was subsequently never deployed. He is excited to compete in the Cycling and JLR Driving Challenge at this year’s Invictus Games.

Agor Tettermann was serving in Iraq during 2004 when his car was struck by an Improvised Explosive Device. After a long rehabilitation period, he returned to service in the field of logistics. Tettermann is a proud father of two daughters and lives happily in the summer capital of Estonia, a town named Pärnu. He will be competing in Indoor Rowing.

Daniel Thomlinson served as a Commando in the Special Forces, Communication Spec. Since then Thomlinson has set new goals for himself and has become a Professional Speaker, as well as an aspiring Paralympian. He says; “I love to compete. It’s also a great oportunity to meet other like minded service and ex servicemen.” He will be competing in Athletics, Archery, Powerlifting, Wheelchair Basketball and Sitting Volleyball.

Phillip Thompson was injured by an Improvised Explosive Device when serving in the Australian Defence Force. Due to this Thompson suffered from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder and deafness in his right ear. During the Games he will be competing in Athletics and Powerlifting.
