    Since being medically discharged, Mark William Urquhart has had multiple operations for him to be able to compete at a competitive sporting level. Sports is incredibly important to him and his recovery because he has now reached his goal and is a ParaTriathlete. Urquhart will be putting this fighting spirit to use as he competes for Gold in Swimming, Wheelchair Basketball, Wheelchair Rugby, Athletics, Sitting Volleyball and Rowing.

    Nathan Vardanega has been in the Army now for 10 years. During this time Vardanega has had to have his right hand and second finger amputated due to a two bang distraction grenade. He says that the Invictus Games will be "an opportunity to meet other competitors and fellow military members who have been traumatised and/or injured through their career in the Defence Forces, and to be able to understand, and even help with other member’s rehabilitation and welfare." He will be competing in Athletics, Cycling and Sitting Volleyball.

    Hector Varela joined the Navy in 1988, wanting to leave his small farm town and see the world. He is proud of his career achievements particularly his rank. In 2012 he was injured in a motorcycle accident which resulted in an above the knee ampuation of his left leg. Since his injury he has enjoyed playing wheelchair basketball and adaptive surfing. He will be competing in Cycling, Field-Discus, Shot Put, Sitting Volleyball, Wheelchair Basketball and Wheelchair Rugby.

    Spencer Vaughn has suffered from C5 Tetrapligic, an illness that effects the human nervous system, resulting in partial or total loss of using limbs.Through an intense recovery process, Vaughn has taken part in various Wheelchair Rugby matches and is proud to be representing the British Armed Forces in the Sport.

    Stephanie Verhoef was injured during service, this resulted in mental illness and issues with her right hand and foot. The power of sport has played a key role in her recovery. She will be competing in Cycling and Swimming.

    Trevor Vernalls suffered spinal and head injuries during his service with the Royal Marines. This has resulted in Vernalls suffering from severe pain while trying to walk, leaving him with limited mobility. Through determination and perseverance, he has been fighting back against his injury and will be representing the British Armed Forces in Cycling.

    Paul Vice was awarded the Military Cross for his outstanding courage and gallantry. He was critically injured whilst on a foot patrol in Afghanistan, when an IED blast severed his carotid artery. The blast also caused brain damage, the loss of using his right arm and left foot. Once he had completed an intensive course of rehabilitation, Vice was introduced to disability sports through the Help for Heroes Adaptive Sports Programme, and in 2013 was part of the H4H team that competed at the US Warrior Games. He will be competing in Archery and Cycling.
