Nathan Vardanega has been in the Army now for 10 years. During this time Vardanega has had to have his right hand and second finger amputated due to a two bang distraction grenade. He says that the Invictus Games will be "an opportunity to meet other competitors and fellow military members who have been traumatised and/or injured through their career in the Defence Forces, and to be able to understand, and even help with other member’s rehabilitation and welfare." He will be competing in Athletics, Cycling and Sitting Volleyball.
