During Roelof Burghoorn’s holiday in Lanzarote in 2006, whilst serving, he fell after stepping onto the boulevard. Four weeks later he woke after a medically induced coma, only to find out that he had a partial spinal cord injury leaving him partially paraplegic. Roelof was rehabilitated at the Military Rehabilitation Centre (MRC) where he had to relearn everything again, and this is where he discovered his passion for Cycling. This led Roelef to all corners of the world on cycling trips and races, such as the Tour de France. Roelof is looking forward to putting his competitive edge to good use in Cycling, and showing the world what people are capable of after injury.
