Having held many different roles within the military including: Close Protection looking after NGOs in Iraq, Counter-IED – Weapons Intelligence and a short stint within an incident response team, Rick Powel gained a vast amount of experience within the Army. Unfortunatley he was injured in an incident where he sustained burns, nerve and spiral fracture to his right leg while his left leg had to be amputated below the knee. Rick spent 12 months at Selly Oak Hospital before the amputation at Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Birmingham. One short month later, Rick had been fitted with his prosthetic supported in his rehabilitation by two specialist amputee nurses at Manor Hospital in Walsall. Rick was medically discharged from the Army in 2011 and has since then worked as an offshore medic in the oil industry, and as a trainee paramedic with the West Midlands Ambulance Service.
