“The Invictus Games are my Olympics,” said Master Sgt. Rhoden Galloway, who will be participating in Swimming, Cycling, Rowing and Sitting Volleyball. Galloway found adaptive sports and other activities as an outlet while he recovered from injuries sustained over multiple deployments at Warrior Transition Battalion (WTB), Texas. Galloway found that swimming in particular helped him both physically and emotionally. After participating in three Warrior Games, Galloway and a handful of other wounded, ill and injured Soldiers and veterans wanted to bridge the gap between participating in adaptive sports at the WTB and competing at a higher level. The team came up with a program they dubbed SARP-Elite. “It shows how sports are not just something for fun. Sports can lead to life after the military.” Adaptive sports and reconditioning activities inspired Galloway to help fellow wounded warriors, and after Invictus he hopes to continue to help them achieve their own personal goals as they recover.
