Andrew Bennett suffered a number of injuries including hearing loss in both ears, the need for ear reconstruction and PTSD. He has since used the power of sport to help build his recovery process and is proud to be representing the British Armed Forces in Archery.

Paul Bennett injured his spine while serving with the Army. Since his recovery, the power of sport has played a key role in giving Bennett a new focus. He is proud to be representing the British Armed Forces in Archery.

In 2009 Andreas Berndt was involved in a truck accident, which left him with severe damages to his abdomen. During his recovery, sport played an integral part; “Sport means more muscles, more self-confidence and less pain.” He will be competing in Road Cycling, Sitting Volleyball and Wheelchair Basketball during the Games.

A Sergeant serving with the 5th Field Ambulance, Renée Bertrand was injured during a regional Badminton competition. Leaving her with a lack of mobility when walking and running. The “Soldiering On” programme facilitated her return to an active lifestyle and helped her overcome daily struggles. She will be competing in the Swimming event.

Bill Blaikie served in the Intelligence Corps for 22 years, before being diagnosed with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder in 2012 after serving as the Deputy Director of Intelligence for Combined Forces Command in Afghanistan. Through his recovery Bill has rediscovered sport and is representing New Zealand in a number of sports at the Invictus Games.

Leigh Bland had to have his leg amputated below the knee on his right leg. This was the result of an injury he suffered during his time with the RAF. Since then, he has used the power of sport to help his rehabilitation and will be representing the British Armed Forces in Archery.

In December 2010 Josh Boggi was severely injured by an IED blast, resulting in a broken back and loss of both legs. His right arm was later amputated due to the damage. After an intensive recovery program, Josh took up hand cycling and in May 2013 cycled 420 miles from Paris to London. In December 2013 he was awarded the Sun Overcoming Adversity Military Award. Boggi will be representing the British Armed Forces team in Hand Cycling.

Stephane Boissinot was serving in the Marine Troops when he was injured by a bombshell in Afghanistan. He will be competing in Indoor Rowing, Powerlifting and Athletics. Other sporting achievements include: Wounded military sports event in Bourges 2013, Sports Sea wounded 2013, Marines Corps Trials 2014 (bronze in 100 m and silver in 4×400 m relay).

Sgt. Booker deployed to Afghanistan in 2010 as part of the Female Engagement Team, and was injured by an Improvised Explosive Device. This resulted in Sgt. Booker suffering from a Traumatic Brain Injury, migraines, nerve damage in lower back, and back pain. She is looking forward to the Games because it “means to never give up and no matter what the battle you face; it can be defeated by your friends and people you trust. People who have gone through the same thing as you always can use help too and by being there for each other in an event brings us together and reminds us that there is always hope and to never give up.” She will be competing in Cycling, Archery, and Indoor Rowing.

Cowan Botha was injured during his service with the Army. He has since taken up a number of sports to help with his rehabilitation. He is proud to be representing the British Armed Forces team in Indoor Rowing and Swimming.

Jason Bourke was injured by an improvised explosive device whilst serving in Afghanistan, which resulted in damages to his feet. In regards to the Invictus Games he says, “I´m doing this training to prove myself that I am still able to be successful after my mission in Afghanistan.” He will be competing for Gold in Archery, Cycling, Swimming.

In 2010 Dean Bousfield was shot in the head by a sniper during a routine parol in Afghanistan. The bullet went straight through his helmet passing through the brain exiting above his right ear. Waking up 4 weeks later, Bousfield was paralysed and Doctors told him he would never walk again. Since being medically discharged, he has pushed himself to the limits competing professionally for Doncaster Athletics, leading Bousfield to be selected for the British Armed Forces Athletics team.

W.A. Bonaventura Bove is a one leg amputee, still serving in Carabinieri Force. He will be competing in Rowing, and Swimming.
