Martyn Gibbons MBE was wounded during a mortar attack while serving in Afghanistan. He sustained shrapnel wounds to his legs and after numerous operations, was confined to a wheelchair. However, due to his strength and determination Gibbons battled to regain the use of his legs through a strenuous recovery program. He has since set up an organisation called ‘Military Mountain Bikers’, which offers free training and assistance for the wounded, injured and sick wanting to access or progress in moutain biking. Gibbons will be representing the British Armed Forces in Cycling.
