    Laura Root decided to join the Navy after travelling the world for several years. She developed a passion for intelligence and languages and was commissioned into the Office of Naval Intelligence and Defense Intelligence. In 2011 she was diagnosed with Muscular Dystrophy. At the 2013 Warrior Games, Laura became the first female to earn a Gold medal in the shooting event. She is now retired and is planning to pursue a career in literature. She will be competing in Cycling, Rowing and Sitting Volleyball.
