Former Private Jaco Van Grass was a member of the British Armed Forces Parachute Regiment, during his second tour of Afghanistan he was severely wounded. Grass and his platoon were engaged by enemy Forces and after an intense 45 minute fire fight, he was hit by an RPG (Rocket Propelled Grenade). The injuries he sustained included the loss of his left arm at the elbow, a collapsed left lung, shrapnel wounds to his left side, punctured internal organs, blast wounds to upper thigh, a broken tibia and a fractured knee. After 11 operations and intense rehab, Grass has shown that his injuries haven’t held him back. He has completed several marathons, trekked to the North Pole, climbed Mount Manaslu and, as part of ‘Walking With the Wounded’ , was only denied summiting Everest by adverse weather conditions. Grass will be representing the British Armed Forces in Cycling.
