In July 2007, Derek Derenalagi was in Helmand Province Afghanistan clearing a helicopter landing site when his vehicle hit an IED. He was in a coma for two weeks and woke to find that he had lost both legs. Derenalagi has never let this hold him back in achieving new goals, through a vigorous training program he has competed in various Volleyball, Discus, Javelin, and Shot-Put events. He will be representing the British Armed Forces team in Athletics
