Corie Mapp was injured in 2010 by an Improvised Explosive Device blast in Afghanistan, where he lost both legs below the knee and suffered other severe injuries. Once flown back to Birmingham’s Selly Oak Hospital, he was place in an induced coma for eight days and underwent multiple surgeries. Mapp is determined and hardworking, and testament to these qualities is the fact that he was walking on prosthetics legs within two weeks of waking from his coma. He soon discovered the restorative nature of sport, and in particular a passion and talent for Sitting Volleyball.
